The Congressional Budget Office, a small, nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress, seeks analysts and economists to
- contribute to a variety of health projects, analyses, and modeling;
- focus primarily on the Medicare program; or
- to conduct analyses of long-term budgetary issues and to assist in the development and use of CBO’s long-term microsimulation model.
The successful can
didate(s) will contribute to the full range of each division’s responsibilities. Those responsibilities may include
- further analyses related to the ACA and studies on a broad range of topics, such as factors affecting the supply and prices of medical care. The successful candidate will contribute to developing new studies and to designing and improving the state-of-the-art analytical models that underlie them;
- preparing multiyear spending projections for federal health care programs, analyzing the Administration’s budget proposals, and preparing cost estimates for legislation being considered by the Senate and House of Representatives. That legislation may consist of a wide range of proposals to modify the financing or delivery of health care—for example, proposals to modify the set of health care services that federal programs cover, the terms under which the federal government will pay for services, or the amount that the federal government or beneficiaries will pay for covered services; or
- developing and maintaining CBO’s long-term microsimulation model, constructing and improving models that underlie CBO’s policy analyses, performing detailed analyses of proposed legislation, and preparing longer-term CBO studies and shorter-term memoranda and testimonies.
Qualifications vary according to position but applicants must have at least a graduate degree in economics, public policy, public administration, public health, or a related field, strong quantitative, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
