Degree and area of specialization:
This open-rank position requires a PhD or other doctorate degree in health economics, health services research, population health sciences, health policy, public policy, finance, healthcare management, or related field. The faculty member appointed to this position will be expected to lead research programs in healthcare systems and population health management.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Applicants should have demonstrable strength in one or more areas related to healthcare systems, value-based healthcare delivery, population health management, health outcomes/comparative effectiveness, decision science, or related topics. Candidates for associate or full professor rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the tenure track. Experience working in or undertaking scholarly collaborations with delivery systems is also desirable.

Principal duties:
The UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), the country’s only fully integrated school of medicine and public health, seeks candidates for a tenure-track or tenured faculty appointment (open rank) in the Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS; www.pophealth.wisc.edu). The position is in the areas of healthcare systems and population health management. In the context of UW-Madison’s longstanding reputation in scholarly and policy-relevant population health activities, healthcare systems and population health management are focus areas where PHS and SMPH seek to enhance and build additional research and mentoring expertise. Applications from individuals with scholarly and policy interests in healthcare systems, value-based healthcare delivery, population health management, health outcomes/comparative effectiveness, decision science, and related topics are encouraged. The incumbent would join a thriving, multidisciplinary department with strong programs of research, including its Health Innovation Program (HIP), and training at the MS and PhD levels, as well as an accredited MPH program. Moreover, PHS and SMPH are presently engaged in curricular innovations in population health management and related themes.

The successful candidate would also have the opportunity to join the broader community of social science, public policy, clinical, and biomedical researchers within the SMPH and across the University, as well as UW Health, the health system partner of SMPH. Many PHS faculty hold affiliate or joint appointments in other UW-Madison departments and research centers, including the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute (UWPHI), the Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP), the Center for Demography and Ecology (CDE), the Center for Financial Security (CFS), and many others.

The incumbent will be expected to contribute to the research, educational, and service missions of PHS. This will involve: undertaking high-impact scholarly research in health systems and population health management; teaching and mentoring students in the Population Health (PhD and MS), MD, MPH and other graduate and professional programs; providing leadership on campus, state, and national healthcare systems and population health management initiatives; collaborating with scholars and engaging with decision makers on activities related to healthcare systems and population health management; and pursuing other activities in areas relevant to the incumbent’s particular interests.

The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank.
